Cocata Project

This project area consists of two Exploration Licences EL 723 km2 and EL 487 km2 in the Cocata area, located south of the township of Wudinna, within Central Eyre Peninsula. The project area lies within the Central Gawler Craton Gold Province. The prime target in the Cocata Project is the structurally controlled orogenic style lode gold and the iron oxide-copper-gold-style such as at Olympic Dam, Prominent Hill and Carapateena.

The project occurs near the south-western margin of the Gawler Range Volcanics, which in the past has been interpreted as a zone of volcanic vents, an important feature in the search for Olympic Dam style deposits. Previous exploration highlighted significant anomalous gold and highly anomalous cerium, lanthanum, neodymium and yttrium values, as well as slightly anomalous uranium (5 ppm) within quartz flooded volcanic units at the Yarna Prospect within the northern part of the project area. This indicates potential for Olympic Dam-style mineralisation at depth.

The area has had minimal exploration for gold and previous exploration has shown that this area contains anomalous gold. The Hiltaba Suite/Gawler Ranges Volcanic magmatic event was widespread across the Gawler Craton and was a major mineralising event. The timing of gold mineralisation on the Gawler Craton at ~1590 Ma, suggests that the Hiltaba Suite was a source of heat and possibly fluids for deposits/prospects including Tarcoola (Au), Tunkillia (Au), Nuckulla Hill (Au), Menninnee Dam (Pb-Zn-Ag), Barns (Au) and possibly Weednana (Au).

Regional mapping south of Lake Acraman reported volcanic rock flooded with quartz, which suggests major fluid flow. Anomalous rock chip samples up to 32 ppb Au from this area also highlights the potential for gold mineralisation associated with Hiltaba Suite intrusives intruding the Gawler Range Volcanics. Areas of abundant quartz veining/pods are located within the demagnetised zones and these areas will be the initial focus of surface sampling to generate drill targets.

Initial work will focus on re-interpretation of the aeromagnetic data, detailed gravity and the construction of a structural model for the project area to aid in interpreting prospective structures. Reconnaissance geological mapping, and calcrete and rock chip sampling over prospective areas is planned, after which data modelling followed by first pass RAB/Aircore drilling over priority targets will be done.
