Silver Swan Group Limited

Silver Swan Group Limited (SWN) is a polymetallic explorer with tenements in the Murchison District of the Yilgarn Craton, Western Australia and the Wilgena and Christie Domains of the Gawler Craton, South Australia. The Company's current focus is on lode-gold, syn-tectonic copper-gold and volcanogenic massive sulphide (Cu-Zn-Ag-Au) mineralisation in Archaean terranes.

Australia Elevation Map

Exploration tenements held by Silver Swan in the Murchison District of Western Australia cover ~680km2. In South Australia, the tenement holding is 1,823km2 and 1,210km2 in the Wilgena (Cocata) and Christie Domains (Mt Watson) respectively.

The company’s recent emphasis with geophysics and diamond drilling has been on volcanogenic massive copper-zinc-silver-gold mineralisation at Quinns and syn-tectonic copper-gold mineralisation at Yagahong, both in the Murchison District.

The South Australian properties are held in joint venture with other parties. Silver Swan is acquiring equity via expenditure in these areas. The Murchison tenements, (except Kiaby Well) are 100% owned by the company.

The Murchison District, Western Australia

The Murchison district historically, has been a major gold producing province in Archaean age rocks, with gold production in the order of 18 million ounces. The major current and past gold producing mines in the area include Mt Magnet, Cue, Big Bell, Reedy, Paddys Flat, Yaloginda, Gabanintha and Mt Gibson.

The region hosts operating mines at Golden Grove (base metals), Yaloginda, Hill 50 and Kirkalocka (gold) and Jack Hills (iron ore). Major advanced projects include Mt Gibson, Weld Range and Mt Karara (iron ore) and Windimurra, Barambie and Gabanintha (vanadium-titanium). Base metal production is principally from Golden Grove (Cu-Pb-Zn-Ag-Au), with total production to 2007 reported as 1.4Mt Zn, 202,000t Cu, 38,000t Pb, 19.5Moz Ag, 202,500oz Au (source: Minmet).

In the Meekatharra area, much of the early historic production of the late 1800’s came from Silver Swan’s tenement area at Stakewell (Kohinoor), Abbotts (Mt Vranizan and New Murchison King) and Quinns (Kaladbro, Cornstalk, Parramatta, Nowthanna, Murchison Wonder, Wallaby, Nuggety and Olympic). These areas have received only limited modern exploration despite the proximity to producing gold mines at Bluebird-Yaloginda and Gabanintha.

The styles of gold and base metal mineralization in Silver Swan’s project areas in the Murchison include:

Quinns Cu-Zn-Au-Ag (VMS style) in metamorphosed felsic volcanic and volcano-sedimentary packages
Yagahong Cu-Au associated with layered intrusive complexes
Abbotts Au in quartz lodes & graphitic shale
Bourkes Find Au in high-Mg basalts
Stakewell Au in BIF and high-Mg basalts
Kiaby Well Fe, Cu-Zn-Pb, Au conceptual targets associated with ultramafic rocks and volcano-sedimentary sequences.

The Gawler Craton, South Australia

The Gawler Craton and margins have become a major focus for base metal, gold and uranium exploration. The world class copper-gold±uranium deposit at Olympic Dam was discovered in 1975, but the next major discovery did not occur until 1995, 20 years later. Recent major discoveries include iron oxide copper-gold mineralisation at Prominent Hill, (discovered 2001) scheduled to begin producing copper and gold in concentrate during 2008 and Carrapateena (discovered 2005), where a major deep drilling program is underway targeting extensive zones of copper mineralisation. The Challenger gold deposit (discovered 1995) produces about 100,000 ounces of gold per year. The Gawler Craton is a stable crystalline basement of Archaean granite and metamorphic rocks overprinted by two major cycles of Proterozoic deformation, metamorphism and magmatic activity. This history provides for a complex mineral potential reflecting the interaction of igneous activity, structural deformation and metamorphism.

Silver Swan Group holds two exploration joint ventures on the Gawler Craton margin, at Cocota on the western Eyre Peninsular and at Watson, on the eastern edge of the Nullarbor Plain.

Silver Swan’s aim is to continue building a portfolio of projects in areas of:

  • significant historic and current production
  • favourable geology and structure
  • low sovereign risk
  • that are under-explored

Silver Swan considers it's portfolio of highly prospective, greenfields to advanced exploration projects as having high potential for discovery of gold and base metal deposits.
