Stakewell Project
The Stakewell project comprises 5 contiguous granted mining leases (ML) located 55km southwest of Meekatharra that cover an area of approximately 20km2. Gold mineralisation is associated with banded iron formation and vein-hosted lode gold in high-Mg basalts.
The project area hosts several gold occurrences, including the former Kohinoor mine, which has been explored and mined intermittently since the late 1890s. Between 1897 and 1911, reported production is 21,000t @ 15g/t gold. A further 45,144 tonnes averaging 2.43 g/t gold was mined via an open pit between 1985 and 1988. Underground mining was carried out between 1993 and 1995 to a vertical depth of 150m, however production from this period was not reported.
East of the Kohinoor deposit, historic aircore drilling intersected strongly quartz veined high magnesium basalt. Historic aircore drilling returned excellent downhole results such as:
| Hole No. | |||||
| SWA34 | |||||
| SWA33 | |||||
| SWA20 | |||||
| SWA14 | |||||
| SWA09 | |||||
| SWA003 |
These results are from parallel quartz veins along a 250m long NNW-trending zone. In 2004, five RC holes were drilled to test the veracity of the aircore and RAB drilling by Mercator Gold Aust Pty Ltd. Three of the five holes returned multiple gold intersections including 05SWRC002 with a best intersection of 2m @ 2.23 g/t from 71m downhole depth, 05SWRC003, best being 1m @ 1.43 g/t from 64m depth and 05SWRC005, best being 2m @ 4.59 g/t from 83m depth.
